Obituary of Jerry Wayne Gilbert

    Jerry Wayne Gilbert, 71, of Independence, KY passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at St. Elizabeth in Edgewood. He was born on August 19, 1948 to the late Herschel and Maurine Gilbert.

    Jerry retired from the USPS as a mail handler. Jerry obtained a bachelor’s degree in English and was able to teach English 101 part time. In his spare time, Jerry enjoyed golf, history, and collecting various stamps and coins. He is also a Vietnam veteran having served in the Marine Corps and was awarded the purple heart.

    Jerry is preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Victor and Richard Gilbert; as well as his granddaughter, Lilly. Survived to mourn his loss is his loving wife of 43 years, Erma Jean Gilbert; sons, Jared (Sarah) Gilbert, Aaron (Brandi) Gilbert, and Evan (Elizabeth) Gilbert; grandchildren, Sophia, Mason, Chloe, Ava, Brent, Arden, and Maeve; siblings, Helen (Robert) English, Ronald Gilbert, Linda and Charlotte; and many other friends and relatives who will cherish his memory.
