Working with Melissa at Dixie Heights High School has been a privilege. Her main job was to work to reduce any barriers students had to accessing an education. To that end, Melissa was a self-starter, and I could always count on her to follow through on working to meet the needs of the students I sent her way for help. She exuded patience and was longsuffering with many of our most challenged students. She was kind, but she also had a tenacity about her that spurred students on to look past their circumstances and find a way to move forward through difficult times. She was a strong advocate for students and families and always provided perspective to our team when we focused too quickly on the education piece for a family who was struggling just to meet their basic needs. To Melissa's family let me say, I am grateful. Thank you for sharing her with our Dixie family. She will be missed, and our prayers are with you as you go through this difficult time.

Melissa was my beautiful niece. She and my daughter Emily used to play together quite often when they were young. Christmas was always at our home when the nieces were small, but when they all came of age and began having their own children, Melissa graciously offered to host Christmas each year. We have many happy memories of Melissa and the family celebrating the holidays together.
She is a beautiful soul filled with light. May she always shine on!

Our girls went through Ryle and cheerleading together. My heart aches with the passing of such a young, sweet and beautiful soul. Praying for peace for the family.
