Andrew Gerald Harmeyer Obituary

Andrew Harmeyer, avid boater, was electrician

One of the joys of Andrew Gerard Harmeyer's life was walking the dog as he walked his stepson, Brady Gosney, to Moyer Elementary School in the morning.

Mr. Harmeyer, who died Sunday at 43, was a lifelong Fort Thomas resident who also attended Moyer.

He also attended Highlands High School in Fort Thomas, where he ran for the cross-country team and graduated in 1981.

He then went to work for H & B Alarm Systems as an electrician. He was a very talented handyman who could fix anything, said his wife, Jody A. Gosney Harmeyer.

She met him one Christmas at the Fort Thomas Pub, and they were married in August 2003. "He was all that I was looking for," she said.

Mr. Harmeyer loved the outdoors, and he particularly loved boating. He had his own boat, "Fuddled," that he piloted on the Ohio River.

"He loved to be on the river and on his boat," his wife said.

His family plans to scatter some of his ashes at Lake Leelanau in Michigan, where his parents had a summer home.

"He was actually a very giving person," she said. "He did anything for anyone who asked."

Other survivors include a stepdaughter, Brittany Trimble of Fort Thomas; brothers, Fred Harmeyer and Bob Harmeyer, both of Fort Thomas; and sisters, Betsy Ballinger of Wilder, Anne Thiem of Taylor Mill, and Susan Meyer of Independence.

Services will be at noon Thursday at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Visitation will begin there at 10 a.m. Thursday. Mr. Harmeyer will be cremated. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, 6612 Dixie Highway, Suite 2A, Florence, Ky. 41042; or Point-ARC of Northern Kentucky, 104 W. Pike St., Covington, Ky. 41011.
