Obituary of Carl Ludwig Hoegermeyer

Please share a memory of Carl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Carl Ludwig Hoegermeyer of Buckingham, PA, passed away Sunday June 7, 2020 at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Ft. Thomas Kentucky.  He was born in Irvington, NJ on November 10, 1938 to the late Julius and Mary Hoegermeyer. Carl is a veteran, having proudly served his country for nearly 9 years in The New Jersey State National Guard, where he was a member of the 50th Armored Division. Carl graduated from Irvington High School and joined his father working for Western Electric in Kearney, N.J., where he entered The Toolmaker Apprentice School training as a apprentice and became a Toolmaker.  At approximately the same time he attended Newark College of Engineering where he earned an Associate Degree in Tool Design.

He worked for Western Electric Company, in Kearney, N.J. in the Engineering Dept. as a Tool Designer until 1976.  He was then transferred to Lucent Technologies in Hopewell, NJ until he retired in 1988 after 32 years of service. Carl loved researching his family tree and genealogy and traced his ancestors as far back as 1700. He was extremely proud to have discovered that one of his great great  great grandfathers, Johann Dieterich Hoegermeyer served in the Napoleonic wars in the 4th Line Battalion King’s German Legion from 1804 to 1816. His many hobbies, which included painting and creating miniatures, led him to found his Toy Soldier Company, Quartermaster Corps. And most recently, together with his son Ralph Hoegermeyer, the website Quartermaster-Collectibles.com. He sculpted and created two sets of soldiers honoring his grandfathers’ service in World War One. He loved history and if you did too, he had your ear. Each October he attended a WWII History Weekend Reenactment in Round Top, New York. For many years, together with his wife, he attended up to 12 Toy Soldier Shows per year, spanning almost the entire Eastern Seaboard and the Midwest. He shared his passion for History with his son Ralph and the two would create dioramas of all time periods, from medieval castles to World War II battle scenes.  Many of these dioramas that they created are in collectors' homes throughout the US. He also enjoyed supporting his favorite team- the Philadelphia Eagles- and he could even dance!

Carl was a great family man.  Taking his family on vacations, many of them with historical sites as part of the agenda. Castles along the Rhine river where we enjoyed dinner and wine on the Rhine.  A cruise around the British Isles was our most recent adventure as a family.  He gave the best bear hugs and had a great sense of humor. He will certainly be remembered for his kindness and dedication, and most of all being an amazing husband, father, and grandfather, and friend to all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Carl is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Danielle Marie Hoegermeyer. Survived to mourn his loss is his loving wife of 59+ years Adele Hoegermeyer; his children, Ralph (Rosemarie) Hoegermeyer and Donna M. Baeckmann; beloved grandchildren, Ashley Baeckmann, Brianna Hoegermeyer, and Alexandra Hoegermeyer; Sister, Linda (Hero) Riemer of Stelle, Germany; his beloved cousin, Lilian Geyer of Williamsburg, VA; numerous nieces and nephews; many close cousins; as well as other friends and family members who will forever cherish his memory.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Expressions of sympathy can be made to Family of God Lutheran Church, 4770 US-202, Buckingham, PA 18912.  To share a memory or to leave an online condolence for the family, please visit the tabs above.
