Obituary of Sien Lea Whitmire
Sien Lea (nee Baker) Whitmire, of Union, KY passed from this life far too soon due to complications from Covid-19 in Sarasota, FL on December 5, 2020 at the vibrant age of 61.
She was born in Cincinnati, OH on October 12, 1959; the daughter of the late Elbert and Virginia Baker. Sien was a talented woman who served many jobs over her career. From being the General Manager of Esco Manufacturing to being an Office Administrator for Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Sien conducted herself with highest standards and professionalism. She always had an infectious smile, a witty personality and an incredible sense of humor. Sien and her husband Don loved to travel. Their favorite trip was heading down to Daytona early in their relationship, but over the years they often traveled around enjoying each other’s company and seeing the sites, especially historical and military locations. Away from her work, Sien liked researching her genealogy and learning about where she came from and her past. She was an avid history buff who even participated in Civil War reenactments. With her vast knowledge of history, she loved to play Trivial Pursuit although her family knew she would always win. In her spare time, she would often spin wool into yarn and actually enjoyed sewing. Sien also liked listening to music and going to concerts with her friends whenever she could. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her beloved family, especially her grandchildren, who she loved so much.
Preceding Sien in death were her parents and her loving husband, Donald “Don” Whitmire.
Those left to mourn, yet celebrate a life well lived include her caring children, Karina (Aaron) McGill, Alana Blackburn and Ian McGill; step-children, Dan (Anna) Whitmire and Donald Whitmire; sister, Kari Watkins; ten grandchildren, Lizzy, Raegan, Philip, Kamryn, Gabe, Kourtlynn, Nathan, Jacob, Andrew and Jameson; as well as many other beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who are now emptier by her passing.
Due to Covid-19 mandates, services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Sien will be laid to rest and reunited with her husband Don at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North, 205 Eibeck Lane, Williamstown, KY 41097.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Sien’s name may be made to DAV (Disabled American Veterans), 3725 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, KY 41076.
