Obituary of Iris Elizabeth Butler

Please share a memory of Iris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Iris Elizabeth Butler was 90 when she passed away in Ft Thomas, KY, on February 24, 2021.  She was born in London, England, where at 8 years old she experienced the German Blitz bombing of World War II.  She was soon evacuated along with other children into the country in East Anglia.  She spent almost five years with various host families, while her single mother worked for the war effort in London.  After the war, she became a legal secretary back in the city.  She followed her husband to America where he had joined the USAF.  They had an adventurous 21 year military life including five years in Panama, and all three of her children were born in England.  When her husband transitioned into a pastor's life, she supported his ministry for many years in many more locations.  They finally settled in Hampton, VA, where they were very active and longtime members of the Hampton Roads Church of Christ.  She came to live in Kentucky after managing her home on her own became too difficult, and she made many trips to enjoy a "lovely piece of fish and chips" at "The Cock and Bull" in Covington.  She was a classy British lady with a lovely smile and soft British accent.  She will be greatly missed by her family and the many friends she made in her loving lifetime, including the short time she had in the Bluegrass State.  We are comforted by knowing she is with her Lord and Saviour and at peace.

She is survived by her daughters Sharon and Teresa, son Stephen, in-laws Rick, Dietmar, and Geralyn, granddaughters Emily, Haley, Amy, Stephanie, and Susan, and grandsons Victor, Timothy, Thomas, and Sean.
