Obituary of Robert Atwood Blackburn

     Robert Atwood Blackburn, age 92, formerly of Florence, KY, passed away Saturday, August 14, 2021 at his home in Cumming, GA surrounded by family. 

     Robert was born in Mt. Zion, Kentucky and lived most of his life in Northern Kentucky except for his military service time and the last six years spent living with his daughter in Georgia.  He graduated from Dixie Heights High School in 1947 and served in the Air Force from 1949-1953.  He retired from the FAA in 1984 after a 31-year career as an air traffic controller. 

     His family has many fond memories of camping and fishing with him on Lake Cumberland and Lake Laurel in Kentucky.  He loved to fish and was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan.  He was adored by his family and his loss is profound for them.

     Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife, Janet Foltz Blackburn. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Lee and Stella J Blackburn, siblings Alma Burgess, Clara Ross, Donald Blackburn, Barbara Rogers, Jacqueline Ryberg, and Deanna Gunn-Leport.

     He is survived by his five children, Robert (Donna) Blackburn, Stuart Blackburn, Paula Blackburn, Sheila (Tim) Webb, and Jennifer (Tom) Anderson, twelve grandchildren including Nick Blackburn, Hannah Collins, Haley Wolfe, Michael Cashwell, Katherine Cashwell, Joshua Webb, Matthew Webb, Elizabeth Cooley, Aubrey Webb, Dana Anderson-Miller, Benjamin Anderson, and Amy Anderson, and seventeen great-grandchildren.

     Visitation for Robert will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 from 9:30am until time of service at 11:30am at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 8461 Dixie Hwy, Florence, KY. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
