Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Fugitt
Mary Elizabeth Fugitt, fondly known to many as “Libby”, age 69, departed this earth on the morning of Monday, September 6, 2021. Enveloped in the love of her family, she left St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Florence to be in the arms of the Lord. The daughter of the late Bernie and Virginia (Carter) Adkins, she was born in Ashland, KY on November 13, 1951.
After working for many years as an administrator for the vice president of American Electric Power, Libby began a second career as a real estate agent. Having possessed a keen eye for interior design and decoration within her own home for many years, this was a natural fit for Libby. When she wasn’t helping others find their dream home, she could always be found doing “retail therapy.” A beautiful person outside and in, she loved to shop and dress sharp. Libby was a multitalented woman. She was an accomplished skeet shooter and loved to dance, especially to disco! Being a member of Unity Baptist Church in Ashland, she was also a woman of faith with a deep love for the Lord. She lived her faith by sharing her kind and generous heart with many—even strangers. Her greatest love of all though, was her family; especially those grandbabies who knew her simply as “Mimi”.
Libby was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Rita Kay Brammer. Surviving to carry on her love and light are her beloved husband of 43 years William M. “Mike” Fugitt; daughters Tiffany Burchett (Jason) and Amanda Fugitt (Damian); grandchildren Lilly Burchett and Charlie Burchett; along with many special family members and cherished friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday September 10, 2021 at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 8461 Dixie Highway, Florence, KY 41042. Libby’s family will receive guests and friends from 12 to 1pm. A joyous funeral service celebrating Libby’s life will directly follow at 1pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider instead making a memorial donation to Libby’s charity of choice: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
