Obituary of Walter E. Gentry
Walter E. Gentry, 93, of Independence, KY passed away Friday, September 17, 2021 surrounded by the love of family and caretakers at Rosedale Green in Covington, KY. Walt was born to William Edward Gentry and Nancy (Hampton) Gentry in Swan Pond, KY. He was a retired District Director of Safety and Driver Superintendent for Roadway Express and a proud U.S. Army and Air Force veteran, having served in the Pacific theatre. Walt was a member of Nicholson Christian Church and an avid gardener, growing green beans, tomatoes, and corn. He liked being outdoors, specifically camping. Being a fan of UK, the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals, Walt could often be found watching sports on TV with his family.
Walt was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving to carry on and tell his story are his beloved wife of 72 years Jacqueline (Klein) Gentry; sons Ronald E. Gentry, Walter E. Gentry, Jr. (Missy), Timothy Wayne Gentry (Kathie); his sister Norma Dean Poland (Mark); 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, other loving family members and close friends.
A memorial service with visitation to celebrate Walt’s life will be held Saturday, October 2nd, 2021, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051. A funeral service will follow directly after at 3:00PM that day at the funeral home. Full military honors will be rendered at the funeral home to conclude the service. Walt will be laid to rest at a later date at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens, 5336 Old Taylor Mill Rd, Covington, KY 41015.
