Obituary of Mary E. Routt

Mary Routt of Cincinnati, OH was called to the Lord on Monday, September 20, 2021 at the glorious age of 90 years old. She was born in Morris Fork, KY on August 12, 1931; the daughter of the late James and Lilley Cornett. Mary was a longtime member of HickoryGrove Baptist Church in Independence, KY and worked tirelessly in the church’s nursery and children’s rooms. Family meant everything to Mary. As a homemaker, she relished the opportunity to care and raise her two daughters alongside her husband. Mary also helped those in her extended family as a caregiver throughout her life in her spare time. She enjoyed cooking and was a skilled seamstress.

Preceding Mary in death was her faithful and devoted husband, Gene Vernon Routt, as well as her 18 brothers and sisters. Those left surviving to carry on Mary’s legacy include her loving daughters, Stephanie Collins and Jennifer (John) Waldeck; grandchildren Michael (Stephanie) Collins; Allison Collins; Matthew Waldeck II; Emily (Matthew) Blevins, Ethan Russell Waldeck and Joseph Waldeck; great-grandchildren; Caleb, Haley and Wyatt Collins; Landon Haskett, and Crew Blevins; as well as many nieces and nephews, close relatives and friends who are now emptier upon her passing.

A visitation celebrating Mary's life will be held from 2:00pm, until 4:00pm on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike Independence, KY 41051. A funeral service will immediately follow at 4:00pm at the funeral home. Mary will then be laid to rest next to her husband the following day, Monday, September 27, 2021 at 10:00AM Evergreen Cemetery, 25 Alexandria Pike, Southgate, KY 41071.
