Obituary of Samuel Lee Prather, Sr.
Samuel Lee Prather, Sr. of Covington, age 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 27, 2021 at his home while surrounded by his loving family. Sam was born in Bradford, KY on October 12, 1938 to the late Cecil and Almeda Prather. He retired as a tool and die maker for Reliance Medical Products after working there over 30 years. Sam was always good at troubleshooting, making things, and engineering. In his younger years, he was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing on bowling leagues- he was even on the T.V. show, bowling for dollars. He enjoyed spending time outdoors whether it was hunting, fishing, or camping with his family in Tennessee and Southern KY. Sam had numerous hobbies, from drag racing at Thornhill, coin collecting to singing in the church choir, which he loved. But most of all, Sam appreciated his time that he spent with his loving family. He was a devoted husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, and friend who will be missed beyond measure.
Survivors include his loving wife of nearly 63 years, Lillie Mae Prather; beloved children, Linda (Ralph) Turner and Samuel Lee Prather, Jr.; grandchildren, Stephanie, Kimberly, Samuel Lee Prather I, and Josiah; 8 great-grandchildren; as well as many other friends and family members who will cherish his memory.
In addition to his parents, Sam is preceded in death by his 8 brothers and sisters.
A visitation for Sam will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Immediately following the service, Sam will be laid to rest at St. Stephen Cemetery in Fort Thomas, KY. Memorial donations can be made in C/O the funeral home to go towards headstone expenses.
