Obituary of Cathy Barwell

Catharine “Cathy” Barwell, 69, of Covington passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Edgewood Hospital. Daughter of the late Carolyn {Vaught} and James Gass, Catharine was born in Ashtabula, Ohio on April 26, 1952.

Cathy married the love of her life, John, on December 28, 1973.

An educator for many years, Cathy taught at Taylor Mill Elementary School, counseled students at Latonia Elementary School and Summit View Middle School, and retired after 11 years as principal at Ryland Heights Elementary School.

Cathy cherished her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She will be deeply missed by her beloved husband of 48 years, John Barwell; children Courtney (Chris) Anderson, Casey (Yuliya) Barwell, Chris (Sarah) Barwell, and Craig (Casey) Barwell; grandchildren Georgia, Sam, Charlie, Nick, Joe, Misha, Mary Kate, Sasha, Clare, and Brooke; brothers Jim (Marlene) Spencer and Dan (Kathy) Gass; and sisters Janine O’Shaughnessy and Nancy (Sherry) Heidenreich.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 17, 2022 between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike Independence, KY 41051. A memorial service will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation Cancer Care Fund at 375 Dixmyth Ave. Cincinnati, OH 45220.
