Obituary of Betty Riddell

Please share a memory of Betty to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Betty “Wooten” Riddell of Covington, age 76, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, KY.

Betty was born to Gwinn and Nora Wooten on June 27, 1945 and grew up in Columbus Indiana. During her junior high years, she discovered the public library a few blocks from school which launched her love for reading. Her reading passion led to a 32-year career in the Library Science field. She worked many years at the architecturally famous main library in downtown Columbus before moving to Carrollton Ky. At the Carroll County library, she did everything to include driving a book mobile and leading the children’s story hour. She frequently cited children’s story hour as the favorite part of her career. She truly had a passion for inspiring children to read. Eventually she made her way to Northern Kentucky where she retired leading access services at Northern Kentucky University in 2008.

She met her husband Ron (Bub) at the apartment building where they both lived. The romance led to getting married at a drive through Las Vegas wedding chapel in 1998 and they settled in Latonia Ky. Ron was the spontaneous one and they frequently traveled to visit family throughout the country and beyond. Always up for an adventure.

Betty had many hobbies that included gardening, crocheting, doting on her grandchildren, and making everyone around her feel at home. She always took care of everyone else first. She is remembered as a kind, loving, hardworking, generous, smart, sweet woman with a constant focus on family. She taught her sons to work hard, take care of your family and to be thankful for what you have.

She is preceded in death by her father Gwinn, mother Nora, sister Brenda, brother Gwinn and loving husband Ron. Betty is survived by her brothers Hollis & Lavoy, Sister Peggy, two sons Gerald (Jerry) & Larry and their spouses Karry and Susan as well as grandchildren Alicia, Maranda, Sarah, Michael, Stephanie, Celia, Casey and great grandchildren, Olivia, Liliana, Kastyn, Hunter, Hadley and Harlow.
