Obituary of Billy Johnson
Billy Johnson 87, a longtime resident of Kenton County, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2022. He was born October 8, 1934 in Glomawr, Kentucky to James and Hazel (Cornett) Johnson and was the youngest of nine children.
Having lost both parents before his 2nd birthday, Billy lived with various relatives and siblings until, at the age of 17, one of his brothers signed a parental consent form which allowed him to enter the U.S. Air Force. He was assigned to Sturgate Airfield in England where he then met and fell in love with his wife Jeanne. They were married in London, England and started their family of four children: Lisa, Mark, Kim and Andrew. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after serving 41 years of active and reserve duty ending with an assignment at Rickenbacker AFB in Columbus, Ohio.
Over the years Billy and Jeanne traveled extensively, but the simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Billy. He enjoyed carpentry, being outdoors, Jeanne’s cooking and never hiring a repairman. He especially loved spending time with family and quiet times sitting on the front porch taking in nature.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents and 8 siblings. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jeanne, daughters Lisa Johnson and Kim Johnson and sons Mark (Phyllis) and Andrew (Barbara) and numerous other extended family members.
A private, graveside service for family will be held on Thursday, July 7th at Independence Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life Thursday, July 7th from 4 -6 pm at Andrew and Barbara Johnson’s home in Edgewood.
