Obituary of Eugene Bowling
Eugene Bowling, 89, recently of Florence, KY passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of family at Emerald Trace, Elsmere, KY on Saturday, July 23, 2022. Born in McWhorter, KY on August 11, 1932, he was the son of John and Sarah [Baker] Bowling.
Eugene served his country proudly during the Korean War in the United States Army. He worked for many years at General Electric. He then went on to Rockwell International, where after sixteen years, he retired. This dependable and generous man worked on anything that had a motor. He never wanted to be paid for his mechanical services though, instead he found great fulfillment just knowing that he could use his skills to help someone. He would often find items, fix them up and then give them away. Those were what his family called “his best days.” Eugene took pride in his garden, especially his tomatoes. More than anything, Eugene will be remembered as a kind and supportive dad, husband, brother, and uncle who was always there for his family.
Those left to carry on Eugene’s legacy are his children Darrell (Shawna) Bowling, David (Sherry) Bowling, Kimberly Bowling; his brother Charlie (Norma) Bowling; grandchildren Jennifer Kaye Bowling, Kenneth Wayne Bowling, Natasha Renéa Bowling, Darrell Lee (Jenny) Bowling, and Andrew Wainscott; great-grandchildren Jonathan Scott Bowling, Jonathan Tyler Wainscott, Landen Lee Bowling, Ryan Christopher Wainscott, Zoey Hope Bowling, Alison Jean Fleckinger, Emma Sue Fleckinger, Brennan Sawyer Fleckinger, and Kloey Ann Bowling; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.
Eugene was preceded in death by his wife Alice A. Bowling; his parents, his brother William Bowling; his sister Magdalene Keith; and his granddaughter Julie Dawn Wainscott.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 29, 2022 at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 8461 Dixie Hwy, Florence, KY 41042. The family will receive guests from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM. A funeral service will follow directly after visitation, starting at 1:00 PM, also at the funeral home. Eugene will then be re-united with Alice and laid to rest with military honors at Independence Cemetery, Independence, KY. If you wish, you can make a memorial donation to AmVets, 4647 Forbes Blvd. Lanham, MD 20706.
