Obituary of Alma Jean Rump Deatherage

Alma Jean Rump Deatherage, age 86, stepped into the arms of Jesus on February 4, 2023. She was surrounded by love as she departed from St. Elizabeth Healthcare, Edgewood, KY.  A lifelong northern Kentucky native, she was born to William and Mary [Gripshover] Rump on September 5, 1936.

Alma was resourceful and used both her hands and her heart to make the lives of those around her better. She worked as both a nurse’s aide in a traditional practice as well as a home health aide (before that occupation was even called that).  She was a caregiver to her very core. Alma was a talented embroiderer and seamstress.  She fashioned clothing for dolls which she both sold and gave to her grandchildren and other young family members. Alma was steadfast in her Catholic faith; a parishioner at St. Clement Catholic Church in Cincinnati, OH. Not a day went by where Alma wasn’t praying the Rosary or reading from her Bible.

Alma was welcomed into Heaven by her parents as well as her brothers and sisters Ray Rump, Leo Rump, Lenny Rump, Bill Rump, Frances Foltz and Dorothy Winston. Those left to carry Alma’s memory are her children Butch Deatherage, Linda Light, and Bryan Deatherage (Darla); grandchildren Heather Deatherage (Eileen Dowd) and Adam Beckerich (Robin Napier); great-grandchildren Jayden Beckerich, Jonathon Beckerich, Karley Beckerich, Audrey Beckerich, and Amelia Beckerich; chosen sister Linda Higgins; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family as well as friends.

A visitation will be held for Alma on Friday February 10, 2023 at Chambers & Grubbs Independence, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051.   The family will receive guests from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Directly following the visitation, there will be prayers and a funeral service for Alma, also at the funeral home. Alma will then be carried to her rest at Independence Cemetery, 5358 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051.  Memorial donations may be made online in Alma’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital of Houston, TX.
