Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Nellie? A: Nellie was always Humble and quiet when she came in. She always displayed perfect behavior if I was running behind waiting to get her hair done. She was a true blessing to me for many years. I always valued her opinions on everyday circumstances and admired her character.

Q: What will you never forget about Nellie? A: Nellie was the best bus driver ever! She drove my nieces as well as my own daughters. I never worried about my girls when they were with Nellie. She always went the extra mile-like calling the house to make sure they made it home if she had to drop them off up the street instead of at the house- or all the little treats she always gave the kids. She would even send treats home for my high schooler with the younger one that still on her bus. I could go on and on. I think it is safe to say there will never be another bus driver like Nellie. Love and prayers from the Hurtt family.

So before she was my Aunt Nellie by marriage she was like my second mom. If it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t have gotten to play softball for several summers providing my transportation (my mom didn’t drive and dad worked nights). Many times I rode with her and Diane to pick ip Uncle Ferd at the rail yard on Decoursey or to get an ice cream. Always so sweet and happy. I don’t remember her ever raising her voice. Many great memories and I will never forget her kindness to me!!! I will miss her! God bless her!

My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this very hard time. Ms. Nellie was the most amazing bus driver there ever was, she cared so much for each and everyone of her kids she drove. She made our childhood going to school memorable. She was such a kind soul and anyone who got the chance to know her was very lucky. She made an imprint on my life, I am very thankful I had her as my bus driver growing up. Ms. Nellie may you Rest In Peace! Many tears will be shed.

Johnny,Diane and Jeff, My prayers and thoughts are with you at this difficult time in your lives. Your Mother lived a wonderful life and touched so many little lives. Three of my grandchildren rode her bus out of St, Cecilia, they loved her because of her meek personality. I will always remember the first time we met,she was dating your dad and we were at Grandma Scherder’s house on Richardson Rd. She remained the same sweet person after all those years.
