Obituary of John Franklin Daugherty
John Franklin Daugherty, age 65 of Walton, KY, passed away after a long battle with cancer, surrounded by loving family at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Edgewood, KY on March 18, 2023. Born in Covington, KY on June 30, 1957, John was the son of Franklin and Betty [Martin] Daugherty.
John was a master carpenter and enjoyed woodworking. His know-how in this area contributed to him being a successful realtor. John owned and operated Daugherty Realtors alongside his wife, Gina, on Main St. in Walton for 23 years. John certainly knew his way around a workbench but he more often than not could be found on the field or in the bleachers. He relished not just attending but coaching the sports of his children. During his tenure on the Walton-Verona School Board, John was an integral part of establishing the high school football program. In his later years, he continued to be massively supportive and involved in sports for his grandkids. Whether you called him friend, coach, pawpaw, dad or husband, this cherished member of the Walton community will be greatly missed.
Those left to carry on John’s legacy and remember his love are his wife, Regina “Gina” [Perkins] Daugherty; children Johnathan Spiller (Sarah), Franklin Daugherty (Jaclyn) and Nolan Daugherty (Maria); siblings Rebecca Murphy (Charles) and Michelle Kanatzar (Joe); grandchildren Tanner Spiller, Isabella Spiller, and Charlotte Spiller; mother Betty Daugherty as well as several nieces, nephews, other close relatives, co-workers and treasured friends. John was preceded in death by his father, Franklin Daugherty.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, 45 N. Main St., Walton, KY 41094. The family will receive guests from 12:00 PM until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 PM, also at the funeral home. In keeping with John’s wishes, he will be cremated and come to rest back home in Walton with family.
