I had the pleasure of meeting Hazel Thorpe a few times many years ago as a young man in Walton, KY. She and her children, Sherman, Thurman and Fannie lived one street away from the street that I grew up on. Her husband Grant had called me over to his house (around 1968) to give me a math tutorial. I remember being nervous about going over to see my math teacher, but she answered the door and was as nice and kind as could be. She put me at ease right away. It's funny how acts of kindness can live in your heart for the rest of your life. She was a great mother to her children and a nice woman to the neighborhood kids. Thanks, Mrs. Thorpe, for your kindness to a young man decades ago. You will be remembered.
