Obituary of Robert Leon Adkins

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Robert Leon Adkins, age 75, a resident of Independence, Kentucky, transitioned into his heavenly home on Saturday, June 24, 2023. He was born in Wichita, Kansas, on a cold Christmas Day, in 1947, to his loving parents, the late Reverend James Irwin and Josephine Francis Adkins and his siblings, Julian, Jimmy and Jean.

Robert, Bobby, Bob, Dad, Papaw or whatever you may have called him had a full life! He had a wonderful childhood and was brought up by Godly parents in a loving Christian home. As years past, Bobby was drafted into the Vietnam War as a solider in the army in 1968 and fought valiantly until January of 1970 for his country. While home from the war, he began to reengage in his ministry of singing and playing drums for various churches and even joined the gospel group, “Regents”.

Years later, he began to get smitten with the love of his life, Cynthia “June” Adkins, which led to marriage in 1975. Subsequently, they had three children. Bobby then spent the next nearly 50 years striving to be the best husband, father, friend, and Christian he could be.

He is preceded in death by his wife, June Adkins, Brothers/Sisters-in-law, Julian & Thelma Adkins, Jimmy & Ruth Adkins and Brother-in-law, John Thacker.

Although Bobby will be missed by many from far and wide, there are some special people that will never be the same without him. He is survived by what he considered his legacy, his three (3) children: Stacy Washburn (Tim), Anthony Adkins (Aaron), and Jon Adkins (Amy); his eight (8) grandchildren: Abby, Madison, Ashton, Alivia, Elijah, Emma, Sophia, and Stella; his sister: Jean Thacker and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A visitation will be held at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051, on Monday, July 3, 2023, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM with a funeral service to begin at 12:00 PM. Burial will be immediately following at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 3227 Dixie Hwy, Erlanger, KY 41018.
