Obituary of John Boyd Powell

John Boyd Powell, age 88, of Independence, KY, passed away Tuesday, July 4, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Edgewood, KY.  John was a retired Machinist Supervisor for R.A. Jones in Covington, KY, a member of New Banklick Baptist Church, and a U.S. Air Force Veteran.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, and working on cars.  He was a true outdoorsman and always enjoyed helping others.  His greatest joy was found spending time with his family, and he was very proud of his four sons and grandchildren.  John was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Gertrude Powell, and sister, Lovona Powell.  He is survived by his loving wife (of 69 years) Ruth Irene Alsip Powell; children, Steven J. Powell (Danita), Larry D. Powell (Sheri), Daniel B. Powell (Diana), and Gregory D. Powell (Yna); sister, Carolyn Kinman ; twelve grandchildren, and twenty-seven great grandchildren.  Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with his funeral service immediately following at 12:30 p.m., at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 45 N. Main St., Walton, KY 41051.  Interment, with military honors, will be at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery North at 205 Eibeck Lane, Williamstown, KY 41097 following the service.  Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O.
