Obituary of Annie Allen

Please share a memory of Annie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Annie Lee [Payne] Allen, 86, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2023.  She was born to Montgomery and Dorothy [Bailey] Payne on April 1, 1937 in Marshall, NC.

A self-described homemaker, Annie was a funny and caring mom as well as grammy.  She grew up on a farm and that desire to work the land stayed with her. She kept flower and vegetable gardens full of petunias, marigolds, mustard greens and her favorite, geraniums.  Annie loved to watch and listen to the birds outside her house.  Her sons lovingly scrubbed her birdbath clean regularly so that the birds could stay healthy and would return to give her joy.

Those left behind to carry on Annie’s love and light are her sons Charles “Chuck” Allen (Lisa) and Jeffrey “Jeff” Allen (Annetta); siblings Shirley Case and Willadean Peake; grandchildren Meghan, Christina, Whitney, Catherine, Seth, and Chandler as well as step-grandchildren Ben and Jesse; great-grandchildren Christian, Makail, Burney, and Harrison, as well as special nephew Richard “Ricky” Peake in addition to many other close relatives and friends.

Annie is preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. Allen, Sr.; her parents, her siblings Marie Anteau, Kenneth Payne, Ward Payne, Grover Payne, Sadie Runnion, and Azalea Crane.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY, 41051.  Following services, Annie will be laid to rest at Michigan Memorial Park, Flat Rock, MI. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial donation in Annie’s name to Shady Nook Care Center, 36 Village Dr, Lawrenceburg, IN 47025.
