Obituary of Richard Foster Oar

Richard Foster Oar, age 75, of Fleming Island, FL, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Florence, KY.  He was born March 30, 1947, saved on April 29, 1972, called to preach April 1974, and was ordained at Tri-County Baptist Church, Warren, MI. He was a retired Pastor, a long-time member of First Coast Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL, attend Midwestern Baptist Bible College, and a graduate of Tri-County Baptist Institute and Hyles Anderson College in Crown Point, IN.  Richard served the Lord in many capacities over the years including these ministries:  Deaf Children Church Director at First Baptist Church in Hammond, IN, Pastor at Mount Salem Baptist Church in West Union, WV, Assistant Pastor at Mason City Baptist Church in Mason City, Iowa, Pastor at Wood County Baptist Church in Bowling Green, OH, worked with the deaf at Trinity Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL, Missionary and president of Lighthouse Bible Institute in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, Assistant Pastor in Louisiana, worked in the Spanish Department at Landmark Baptist Church in Haines City, FL, and was instrumental in raising funds for Mount Pisgah Bible Scripture Printing Ministry.  Richard learned magic at a young age and he used it to open doors and share the gospel to children and others who would not have been reached any other way.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Oar; sons, Adam Hoar and Richard Hoar (Cathy); stepdaughter, Julie Jungclaus; stepsons, Dale Caldwell (Vicki), Bryan Caldwell (Amanda), and Carl Samuel Caldwell;  grandchildren, Oliver Jungclaus, Evan Jungclaus, and Travis Jungclaus, Kaitlyn Caldwell Christian (Casey), Dale Caldwell, Jr. (Katelyn), David Caldwell, Gregory Caldwell, Rose Caldwell Carter (David), Dayna Caldwell, Emma Caldwell, and Lydia Caldwell; great grandchildren, Jaxson Christian, Andi Christian, Jace Christian, Lucas Caldwell, Ava Caldwell, Bryan Caldwell, Sarah Caldwell, Annie Caldwell, and Morgan Caldwell; his two sisters, Wilma Jean Kaslly and Naomi Sommers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Mary Hoar, brother, Allen Hoar, and sister, Mary Pohlman.  Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, August 8th at First Coast Baptist Church located at 7587 Blanding Blvd., Jacksonville, FL 32244. Service will start at 2 p.m. with refreshments to follow. You can view the service via First Coast Baptist Church Live Stream
