I'm sorry that I could not attend the services for Randy but I do want to extend my condolences to the Smith family. I always enjoyed having the Smith kids in class. Randy's humor remains a good memory. I was glad to see that the Cross Country team had him as their coach. His name will forever linked to WV.

I was shocked when I heard the news of Randy's passing this week. I guess it reminds us just how precious life is and how we need to live each day to our fullest. Randy's personality was one of just that. He was always energetic, active, and involved with children, family and friends. He will be greatly missed within the Walton-Verona School Community as well with family and friends. As a student-athlete he was a role model for future students. My love and condolences to the Smith Family. May God provide some peace and healing in this very emotional time. Love, thoughts and prayers are going up for all of you.

As a conference coach in the NCKC I know Randy will be missed. His athletes loved him and were inspired by him. Whenever Carroll County had to race Walton-Verona we knew it was going to be a tough race because of how well coached their athletes are. Randy was a collegue and a mentor. He will be missed.

Having had the honor of knowing The Smith family for many years, I can honestly say this is a family who touches the lives of all those they encounter in a very special way. To Ronnie, Cindy, Tim, Danny, and Ryan & Ronette there are not enough words to express my heartfelt sorrow too each of you for the loss of your Son and Brother. To Randy, I feel very privileged to have known such a wonderful person. It was obvious to all whose path you crossed that you were a person with a heart of gold and a smile that would light up the room. Much love and prayers to you all Marge

They say that good friends can go periods of time without speaking, and when they do it seems like nothing has been missed at all; this is what Randy and I shared together, and what I will miss the most. He had a way about him that was so comfortable, so easy to talk to and be yourself around, he knew no strangers and was always quick to give a hug. There are no words large enough to describe the beautiful human being that many of us called "friend". His smile and laughter will forever remain embedded in my mind and in my heart. Rest easy now my friend and know that you touched the lives of so many, and leave behind three beautiful children that can always say that they had a hero for their dad. Love Always, Melissa

Randy was my best friend at work. I'd never met a person that thought just like I did until I met Randy. We had so much in common with sports, coaching, our sense of humor, and our families. Randy always made me feel comfortable to talk to him about anything and be myself. He had the best sense of humor and a passion for life that I admired so much. The thing I appreciated most about Randy was his love for his family, especially his children. He was so proud of his kids and it showed in everything he did. I will miss him everyday and will never forget the impact he made on my life. I am so fortunate to call him my friend and to have gotten the chance to know such a loving and fun person. My love and prayers to your family. God bless you, Becky Ponatoski

Our family will miss Coach Smith. My sons, Reese and Cole are two of his youngest runners. They admired him, were encouraged and taught by him and they are very sad. As parents, we've seen how he's improved their lives and given them the love for a sport that will keep them healthy and strong for the rest of their lives. His connection to my boys was a blessing from God that will keep on blessing them even while Coach sits with the Lord in heaven.--the Danzers.

I never had the opportunity to meet Randy, but I'm friends with Tyson and know Ronette and Ryan as well as having met both your parents. So I know having met them that he came from good stock and had a great heart. He's at peace and we all have an extra Angel looking over us. May God give you all strength during this difficult time.
