Bernice G. [Lusby] Halsey Craft, age 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of family at her residence on August 23, 2023. Born on May 19, 1929 in Cincinnati, OH, she was the daughter of James Lusby and Floretta [Montgomery] Jones.

Bernice retired from a career of serving others as a physical therapist’s assistant at St. Elizabeth Hospital North.  She was industrious and strong in body and mind. Bernice’s hands always had to be busy. Her charitable and giving nature lead her down many paths.  She used her talents to crochet afghan blankets for veterans who were undergoing hospice. Additionally, she knitted winter hats for homeless veterans, an activity that many members of her family continue to this day. She was a member of The Order of The Eastern Star.  She also enjoyed many years of camping with her 2nd husband, Bill Whaley, and traveling with family.  Bernice was a loving mother, mentor, grandmother, wife, and sister.

Those left to remember and celebrate Bernice’s sweet spirit are her children George Halsey; James Wayne Halsey (Judy); Beth Craddock, Rose Kelley (Bob) and her bonus daughter Debbie Centers (Paul); her brother James Lusby (Ann); grandchildren John Halsey, Tom Halsey, Kelly Craddock, Nathan Craddock, Amanda Halsey, Emily Halsey, Eric Halsey, and Casey Centers; nineteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; as well as many other close relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Donald Craft; her son John Richard Halsey; her son-in-law Charles Craddock; and her parents.

Bernice will be laid to rest at KY Veterans Cemetery North, 205 Eibeck Ln, Williamstown, KY 41097 on Friday, September 15, 2023 at 11:00 AM.  You are cordially invited to a celebration of Bernice’s life the following day on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Colonial Heights Senior Living, 6900 Hopeful Rd, Florence, KY 41042.  Please join Bernice’s family to share memories and stories from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM.
