Obituary of Dave Reekers
David Clifford Reekers, 89, of Florence, KY, passed away on November 2, 2023 at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, KY. Born in Dayton, KY on August 7, 1934, he was the son of Arthur and Florence [Woods] Reekers.
Dave was a graduate of Newport Catholic High School and a proud Navy veteran. He made a living being a service pipefitter for commercial refrigeration and was a member of UA Local 392. One fateful day, Dave met Florence (better known as “Fuzzy”) at a local canteen. She attended Dayton High School. They became sweethearts and were married. They began their life together and raised their family in Campbell County.
Lake Cumberland was like a second home for Dave. He enjoyed boating and being with his family there any time he could. Truly, he loved anywhere where he could be close to the water. Bowling and golf were also favorite pastimes. This easy going, always joking and smiling man will be dearly missed.
Preceding Dave in death are his wife of over 60 years, Florence “Fuzzy” Reekers; his son David Reekers, Jr.; brother Arthur Reekers, Jr.; sister Mary Lou Kruse; and his parents.
Those remaining to carry on Dave’s legacy are his children Dan (Diane) Reekers and Jane (Mark) Case; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held for Dave on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY. The family will receive guests from 10:00 AM until shortly before the time of the funeral service at 11:30 AM. Directly following the service, Dave will be laid to rest and reunited with Fuzzy at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 2201 Dixie Hwy, Fort Mitchell, KY 41017. Full military honors will be rendered at the cemetery.
