Obituary of Russell Franklin Stephenson

Russell Stephenson, age 90, of Union, KY, passed away Monday, January 29, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Edgewood, KY.  He was a retired Butcher for the Walton Locker Plant and Slaughterhouse (which he owned and ran with his brother, Bob), an U.S. Army Veteran, a member of Union Baptist Church, and a former member of the Union Masonic Lodge #304.  In his younger days, “Russ” drove a milk truck for the Stephenson Milk Hauling Company, with his brothers, picking up & delivering milk from many Northern Kentucky Dairies.  He was a “Teller of Tales”, who enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, playing cards, traveling, and watching U.K. basketball.  Russ was also known to pull a prank or two on his friends and family whom he dearly loved.  Those left to survive his legacy are his daughters, Tammy J. Stephenson-Litmer (Duey) and Tina Stephenson; granddaughter, Frances Margaret Stephenson; and sisters, Mable Ann Martin, Freida Marie Hoelein (Marvin), Virginia Mae Huff, and Helen Margaret Murdock.  Preceding Russ in death were his wife, Sarah Frances Cook Stephenson; parents, Harley Clinton Stephenson and Annabelle Mann Stephenson; and siblings, Eugene Stephenson, Robert Stephenson, Howard Stephenson, Jim Stephenson, “Buck” Stephenson, Norma Jean Moore, Fay Sparks, Jessie Coppage, and Billy Stephenson.  The visitation for Russ will be Thursday, February 1, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051.  His funeral service will be Friday, February 2, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Union Baptist Church, 1985 Union School Rd., Union, KY 41091.  Interment with military honors will take place immediately after the service.  Memorial donations are suggested to Trooper Island, Inc., Kentucky State Police, 919 Versailles Rd., Frankfort, KY 40601 or at https://squareup.com/store/trooper-island.  For directions, to view Russ’s Life Tribute Video or to leave the family a message of condolence, please go to www.chambersandgrubbs.com.
