Q: How would you describe Dovia to someone who had never met them?
A: If you never met Dovia its a good thing to meet her because she loves to cheer people up and one thing that Dovia did was take good care of friends and family.Me and Dovia were really good friends and we were in a treatment facility together and Dovia found a foster home in northern kentucky and then I ended up finding a foster home and we went to the same middle school together and i looked forward to everyday to getting to hang out with Dovia.I am currently now in a treatment facility and i heard this news months later after the incident and this is such heartbreaking news I love Dovia so much .RIP babygirl fly high.

I had the privilege of working with Dovia at a facility she attended several times. Working as part of the Juvenile Justice system can be tough in more ways than one, but this is by far one of my biggest realities I’ve faced on the job. I had a way of understanding Dovia that I unfortunately can’t get with every child I work with, despite my efforts. We would talk about real life experiences and how to cope with what’s going on in our hearts and our heads. I hope those talks helped her as much as they helped me most days. I have a picture she drew hanging in my locker with all the words that she would say describes me, and I still laugh when reading “gangster” as one of the last words she wrote for a laugh. She was always one to make everyone laugh. We would sing Rod Wave everyday together and talk about how some of his lyrics touched deep on our souls. She was small but fierce and had so much to offer this world. I hope she always knew that I wasn’t just there for her because it was my job. She will never be forgotten. Rest Easy, Pernell.

I went to iop with Dovia, she was always making everyone laugh and always had a smile on her face. She would play with one of the group members phone and put funny filters on the both of us.

Dovia was truly a bright light. I knew her thru my Grandson and they had music and rap in common. She came often to connect with that. I actually did not know her age so when it was printed, I was very surprised. She was very mature and her manners were impeccable.

One thing Dovia was so great doing was coming up with wise words to share with the world.

One day Jennifer asked me to pick Dovia up from karate. We had a great afternoon watching TV, eating junk food and talking. At the end of the day I wasn't sure if I was watching Dovia or if she was watching me.
You will always be our Duuuuuhvia. We love you. ❤️

Dovia was one of my students at school who visited the first aid room frequently. No matter what “mood” she was in, even when angry….i would say “Dovia, can I give you a hug?” She NEVER told me no. RIP sweet girl!

I had the privilege of being Dovia’s counselor during her time at Morehead. She had a spunky attitude and for sure was remembered even after she left. Dovia knew how to make others laugh and really did have a genuine, caring spirit. She deserved more than this life gave her.

Dovia was the highlight of my nursing career in 2023. She was full of life, sassy, spunky, inquisitive and at times, her humorous commentary would get the best of me. If I made a promise, she expected me to keep my word, she was big on that. I will miss her laugh and the innocence I saw in her eyes. Love you little Diva. You are burned in my memory for life.

Dear Sweet Dovia...I will always remember how helpful and kind you were to Conner.
I will remember how you would take him on walks with Charlotte and you always tried to be that big sister to him. (And I will forever remember the missing cell phone that went missing between you and Conner for months.) I will cherish driving up and seeing you all working in the lemonade stand. Life was never dull with you Dovia. ❤️ We miss you and feel your loss BIG.

Dovia was such a light! I had the pleasure of knowing her from April to July of 2023. Although it was a short time, it was long enough to impact my life. I wish I would have been able to get to know her more; but the time I did share with her was certainly time well spent! If I sit and reflect, U can hear her laughing and sharing her ever so extravagant stories.
Sending love and light to her family during this difficult time.
