Margie "Nanny" Arrasmith, cared for others Margie "Nanny" Arrasmith lived her life caring for others. The Florence resident, who died Wednesday at 84, spent most of her working life as a registered nurse. She trained at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Covington, then spent two years serving as a nurse in the Army during World War II. She rose to the rank of lieutenant. She worked many years at the former Booth Hospital in Covington, which moved to Florence in 1989 and was renamed St. Luke West. She also worked many years as a patient representative, visiting patients to make sure their needs were being met. "She was always taking care of everyone else," said her niece, Carol Marler. "Of course, with her nursing background, she was always taking care of everyone in the neighborhood." Mrs. Arrasmith loved to read, especially books about herbal remedies. A staunch Republican, she also kept up with current events. She was a member of the Belleview Baptist Church. Raised in Boone County, she returned to her native Bourbon County in the 1950s to run a small grocery store with her husband, John G. Arrasmith Sr., who died in 1968. They moved back to Boone County in the early 1960s and lived on Hicks Pike with Mrs. Arrasmith's mother until her death. Then they moved to a log cabin by Woolper Creek, where Mrs. Arrasmith lived until very recently, when she moved to Colonial Heights and Gardens in Florence. "She continued to take care of people there, as far as she was able," her niece said. "She was always a caregiver, her entire life. It was just born into her, I guess." Her son, John G. Arrasmith Jr., preceded her in death. Survivors include a sister, Mildred Mastin of Paris, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home, Florence. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Paris Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Potter's Ranch, 11500 Victory School House Road, Union, Ky. 41091; or Belleview Baptist Church, 6658 Fifth St., Burlington, Ky. 41005.
