James T. Walker Sr., 78, of Independence, KY, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 10, 2024. The son of the late William and Wilma {Brooks} Walker, James was born in Covington, KY, on August 20, 1945. He attended church for many years at First Baptist Church in Independence, KY. A proud veteran, James served in the construction division of the United States Navy and was deployed to Cuba during the Vietnam War. After his military service, James went on to work for Duke Energy and retired after more than 30 years of service. In his spare time, James enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching UK sports. He was an avid runner and participated in many marathons. James also enjoyed hiking in the mountains and water rafting.
He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 61 years, Ruth Walker; grandchildren Marty Fuller Jr., Jonathon Fuller, James Moore, James T. Walker III (Vanessa), and Nathaniel Walker; great grandchildren Laurie Lynn, Alexis, and Hannah; sister Patricia Bryant; and brother, Joseph Walker.
James was met in Heaven by his parents; son James Walker Jr.; daughters Laurie Walker, Kimberle Walker, and Melissa Fuller; sister Brenda Baughman; and brothers William and Gary Walker.
A visitation will be held between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM with a funeral service to immediately follow at 12:00 PM on Monday, April 15th, 2024, at First Baptist Church of Independence, 11691 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051. James will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, KY. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Independence.
