Obituary of Lee R. Maxey, Jr.
Lee Roy Maxey, Jr. of Ryland Heights, age 75, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, KY. He was born in Moreland, KY on September 26, 1948, to the late Margaret {Southerland} and Lee Roy Maxey, Sr. Lee retired twice in his life, first from General Motors after 25 years as a pipefitter. Secondly, he retired from the United States Postal Service. Lee was also a veteran having proudly served in the United States Army and was a member of Cold Spring Baptist Church. Lee enjoyed reading the Bible and sci-fi novels. He also liked to spend his time fishing and restoring old cars. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his beloved family. Lee was a husband, dad, papa, brother, and uncle who will be remembered by his kindness, patience, and for always being someone you could rely on.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Cecelia {Ping} Maxey; children, Rachel (Jimmy) Wolfe and Patrick (Annette) Maxey; beloved grandchildren, Shelby (Cory) Dunaway and Cole Jacob Collins; great-grandchildren, Reed Emery Dunaway and Baylee Dieters; siblings, Larry (Linda) Maxey, Violette (Jim) Fausz, Johnny Maxey, and Mary Etta Patton; several nieces and nephews; as well as many other close friends and relatives who will forever cherish his memory.
A visitation will be held on Monday, April 29, 2024, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 PM, at the funeral home. Immediately following the service, Lee will be laid to rest at Independence Cemetery.
