Obituary of Cheryl Curtis

Please share a memory of Cheryl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Cheryl Curtis, 68, resident of Independence, KY, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 14, 2024. Daughter of William and Patricia {Klosterman} Burke, Cheryl was born in Covington, KY on September 8, 1955. She married Barry Curtis, on March 7, 1992, and they shared a loving wonderful 32 years as husband and wife.

Cheryl was known for her vibrant, loving, and caring personality; she truly was a people person. She loved her family; she loved her friends, and she loved the Church. Her favorite roles included wife, mother, and grandmother. She adored her grandkids and constantly had them on her mind. Just recently she moved to the Independence, KY area to be nearer to her newest grandbabies and you could see the joy on her face whenever she was talking about them. Whether it was her fully grown grandchildren or her youngest, who she got to celebrate his first birthday with recently, she loved them all as deeply and completely. All of her nieces and nephews knew her as aunt-Mamaw and loved spending every holiday and birthday with her. She was always telling jokes and her laugh was contagious and heard from every room in the house. She enjoyed the time she spent with her daughter-in-law’s sister, Nicole, and acting as an “activity coordinator” and more importantly friend.

Cheryl had a great passion for baking and always brought the best fudge, cakes, and heavenly hash to every family party. She loved to travel, especially to Colorado, Michigan, and Gatlinburg. She loved going to Blake Shelton, Bon Jovi concerts with her sister-in-law Angela and was always on the look-out for them in public. One of her passions included serving with the children and volunteering at the VBS at whichever church she was a member with at the time. In 1998, she was baptized during the VBS at the age of 42 with the Elsmere Church of Christ. Later, she and her husband, Barry, became members of First Church of Christ in Burlington.

A dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother, Cheryl cherished every moment spent with her family. Cheryl will be greatly missed by her husband of 32 years, Barry Curtis; children, Brendan Woods, Amanda (Jason) Harden, and Brady (Jourdan) Curtis; Mother Patty Burke; siblings Kevin (Diana) Burke, Sheila (Steve) Jenkins, and Tracy (Jeff) West; grandchildren Madison Harden, Jayce Harden, McKenzie Woods, Katelyn Woods, Haley Woods, Chloe Curtis, and Braeden Curtis; and numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends.  Cheryl was preceded in death by her father William Burke (2000) and her sister Tammy Bishop nee Burke (2021).

A visitation will be held between 10 AM and 12 PM with a funeral service to immediately follow at 12 PM on Tuesday, May 21st at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike Independence, KY 41051.
