Obituary of James "Jimmy" Haynes
James Alan Haynes, 67, of Union, KY, better known to all who loved him as Jimmy, passed away enveloped in the arms of family after a long and valiant battle with cancer on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Hospice, Edgewood, KY. The son of James Melvin Haynes and Mary Lou Sparks, he was born at The Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, formerly Naval Hospital Portsmouth in Portsmouth, VA on January 17, 1957.
After Jimmy’s birth, his family moved back to Kentucky to be near family. A graduate of Boone County High School, Jimmy worked briefly for L&N Railroad. Jimmy’s lifelong livelihood was to be found not on the rails, but on the road. He dedicated 30 years as a wrecker driver for Sechrest Garage in Williamstown, KY. He was gregarious and funny, always teasing those he cared for. It was said of him “if he didn’t aggravate you, he didn’t like you!” Never a veteran but possessing a deep respect and love for his country, the flag was always raised at Jimmy’s house. He enjoyed riding his Razor, water-skiing, boating and tubing as well as earlier in his life, taking to the open highway on his motorcycle. While it seems that Jimmy’s life was one of near constant movement and motion, he would never think twice about slowing down, pausing for just a moment to be still and with those he loved.
Jimmy was a beloved husband to Tracy Haynes; a dear dad to Jason Haynes, Parker (Stephanie) Haynes, Cody Haynes and Bradie (Mike) Haynes; dear step-dad to David Williams; treasured brother to Barbara (Larry) Crider; adored papaw to Hunter, Chloe, Aria, Bentley, Charlie, Maddie and Sophia as well as a cherished uncle to Chris (Adrienne) Crider and cherished “Uncle Meatball” to great-niece Afton and great-nephew Memphis. Jimmy was also a precious nephew to his aunts Margaret Tingle and Marie Sparks. He is preceded in death by his parents.
