Obituary of Joseph A. Huesman

Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Joseph A. Huesman, of Walton, KY, unexpectedly passed away at his residence on Thursday, July 11, 2024, just weeks after his 80th birthday.  Born, June 22, 1944 in Covington, KY, to the late Harry A. Huesman and Eleanor Wilson Huesman.  Joe was a fixture in Independence, KY for most of his life.  He was a retired Mail Carrier and was everybody’s favorite Mailman in the Independence/Walton areas.  He liked to carry bubble gum for all the kids on his route and they couldn’t wait to see him come down the street.

Joe loved sports.  Fresh out of high school, he played minor league baseball for a brief time in St. Louis.  Later he coached football and baseball in the Taylor Mill Booster leagues, played basketball and softball in rec leagues, bowled in a league at Cherokee Bowl, was an avid golfer.  When he wasn’t playing, he volunteered for the Simon Kenton Boosters and worked “the chains” for every Simon Kenton home football game for many years.  Later, he took great pleasure in watching his grandchildren participate and excel in area sports.

Joe proudly served his country as a U.S. Air Force Veteran having served primarily in Germany during the Vietnam War and was once named Airman of the month.  He didn’t talk much about his time in the military, but he was very patriotic and a true American.

Over the years, Joe was also a member of the Independence Lion’s Club, Taylor Mill Moose Lodge, and served as a volunteer fireman for the Independence Fire Department.  He was also a faithful, long-time member of St. Cecila Catholic Church.

In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brothers, William Huesman and Leo Huesman, and brother-in-law, Frank Schweitzer.  He is survived by his children, Debbie Coomer (Steve) and Mark Huesman (Kara); grandchildren, Alec Huesman (Kelsey), Tate Huesman (Kara Taulbee), Jacob Huesman (Christina Cook), Kyle Coomer (Kyleigh), Chase Coomer (Abby), and Troy Coomer (Kaylee); honorary grandson, Zach Vogt (Abby); great grandchildren, Isaac, Noah, Hudson, Colson, Hayes, Jackson, Addison, Hunter, & Oaklee; his sister, Mary Jane Schweitzer; brothers, Don Huesman (Junko) and Tim Huesman (Edie); and sister-in-law, Judy Huesman.
