Obituary of Bob Walter

Please share a memory of Bob to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

James Robert Walter, lovingly known as “Bob”, left us on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at the age of 88. The family is comforted by knowing he entered heaven free of his wheelchair/scooter with both feet firmly leading the way to Jesus where he was able to hear him say “Job well done my good and faithful servant”. His greatest joy would have been reuniting with his Mom and Dad. Bob and his Dad had a very special bond in life.

Bob is the eldest son of Leslie and Frances Walter. Bob was raised in Karnak, IL where he went to school and helped his Dad on the farm. From there, he went to college at Murray State. He eventually moved to Cincinnati with his parents and continued his education. He became a teacher at Taylor Mill Elementary. Eventually, he started driving a school bus which turned into him becoming Director of Transportation for Kenton County Schools from which he retired.

Bob was introduced through a friend to Deborah Nichols of Hebron, KY while he was a teacher in Taylor Mill. The two wed December 20, 1958 and started a life of their own and raised their family (kids Jeff, Doug & Vicki). They were blessed with a long marriage of 65 1/2 years. Together they enjoyed Family events, Cincinnati Pops concerts and sporting events (high school, basketball, and football). He was a diehard fan of the UK Wildcats and NASCAR. They traveled the world, Bob loved exploring new countries and meeting new people through the International Friendship Force. Bob was also the treasurer of Runyan Memorial Christian Church for over 20 years.

In his older years, he took pleasure in family, along with his 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He would send an endearing smile across the room while watching them play.

Bob’s family graciously lets him go but will miss him for an eternity. Wife; Deborah Nichols Walter, Children; Jeff (Tina) Walter, Doug (Kelly) Walter, Vicki (Gary) White; Siblings, Jean (Bill) Backus, Bob’s Brother Darrell Walter and Sister Margaret Walter Smith Jones pre-deceased Bob, his grandchildren Chris (Megan) Walter, Bryan White, Tasha White, Aaron (Ashley) Walter, Kim (Mark) Messmer, Nick (Nicole) Walter, Dustin (Cara) White, Jonathan Walter, and Rebecca Walter, 10 great-grandchildren, and many friends and neighbors
