Barbara Lee (Johns) Sutton, age 87, passed away on the morning of November 16th, 2024 at her residence in Fort Thomas, KY. She is the second daughter of the late Willard and Marie (Hilbert) Johns.

Barb attended St. Steven’s parochial school in Newport, KY and graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1955. She went on to work for Edward Elliott, Attorney at Law, in Covington, KY and later, John Brooking, Esq. She was easy to get along with and enjoyed her work. While in Northern Kentucky, she met Charles Sidney Sutton at Lang’s restaurant. She and Charlie were wed on September 4, 1961 at Sacred Heart Church in Bellevue, KY. They built a life together for over 60 years. The Suttons were blessed with two sons and a family business where Barb retired as Office Manager at Sutton Construction.  Barb was able to manage her time to include serving as the president of the Home Builders Association of Northern Kentucky and as a frequent classroom parent for her boys’ school field trips. She was an active member of investment clubs, card groups, and loved her ceramics classes and gardening. Her favorite season was winter and she loved yellow roses! 

She proudly hosted the Sutton family Christmas and Easter gatherings for over 50 years. She was an excellent baker and lovingly passed some of her special recipes to her granddaughter and nieces.  Barb made close friends at her final residence at Carmel Manor in Fort Thomas, KY, where friends jokingly accused her of cheating due to her lucky nature in Bingo. She will be missed by so many.

Barb is preceded in death by her parents Willard and Marie (Hilbert) Johns and her son Dr. Gregory Sutton.

She is the treasured wife to Charles Sidney Sutton; beloved mother to Eric Sutton and her daughter-in-law, Dr. Shelley (Tretter) Sutton, doting grandma to Sarah and Matthew Sutton, loving sister to Mary Lou Cunningham and Ron (Gloria) Johns, and favorite Aunt Babs to her nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held for Barbara on Monday, November 25th at noon, followed by her funeral service at 1:00pm at the Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051.
