Obituary of David French

On November 14th 2024, David Terrance Sleet French was called to his heavenly home. David, the son of the late Rosella Sleet Porterfield and Matthew Sleet and the stepson of the late Vernon Porterfield, succumbed to a heart attack while dining in a New Albany, Indiana restaurant.

David was born June 14, 1955. He was a Lloyd High School graduate and had a career with the US Navy. He retired at the rank of Petty Officer I/E6. David was a bit of a nomad. Throughout his retirement, he lived in various states but always circled back to his home of Kentucky.  No matter where he was living, he always made it back to celebrate family gatherings. David also always returned to the annual celebration of his mother, Rosella French Porterfield; held at the park bearing her name and dedicated in her honor. His most joyous moments were when he was dining out with friends and family. Throughout his life, David spread his joy for living and his optimism to everyone he met, be they strangers, friends or family members. David was a person with a truly generous soul and would help anyone in need. May he rest in peace.

Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until shortly before the start of the memorial service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at First Baptist Church, 1007 Garvey Ave, Elsmere, KY 41018. David will be laid to rest with military honors following the memorial service at Richwood Cemetery,1070 Richwood Road, Walton KY 41094. Following the committal service at the cemetery, the family would like to invite all who wish to continue to celebrate David to a meal at Cattleman's Roadhouse,12910 Frogtown Connector Rd, Walton, KY 41094.
