Obituary of Dennis Wade Bowling
“Sounds of laughter, shades of life are ringing
Through my open ears inciting and inviting me
Limitless undying love which shines around me like a million suns
It calls me on and on across the universe.”
--- The Beatles
Dennis Wade Bowling, 72, of Independence, KY, passed suddenly at his home on Sunday, January 5, 2025. Born on July 20, 1952 in Covington, KY, he was the son of the late Hargis Bowling, Sr. and Martha [Howard] Bowling.
A quiet, level-headed and thoughtful man, Dennis made a living as an electrical technician. He retired from Sweco after many years. Dennis served dutifully in the United States Air Force. Whether meant for the maritime of Earth or beyond, he loved ships of all kinds. He relished watching movies and television, especially anything that dealt with the subject matter of outer space. A few stand-out favorites were classics like Star Wars as well as the Star Trek franchise. Dennis was a voracious reader. He enjoyed introducing his family to new authors and taking them on visits to the local library. Articulated and metered in his speech, Dennis preferred to listen and observe before responding or engaging with anyone in conversation. In his younger years, he tended hives as a beekeeper. He delighted in cheering on the Cincinnati Bengals and listening to classic rock from the 1960s and 1970s. Infinitely reliable and caring to those he loved, there was nothing so dear to Dennis as his family, especially his grandkids.
Dennis was the beloved dad of Laura (Jeremy) Holbrook and David Bowling; dear brother to Teresa (Michael) Mulligan, Beverly Bowling and Paula Bowling, dear brother-in-law to Barb Bowling; treasured grandpa to both Hunter and Hailey and adored uncle to Kelly and Erin. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents as well as his brothers Hargis “Jay” Bowling, Jr. and Larry Bowling.
Dennis will be laid to rest with full military honors at Independence Cemetery, 5358 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051 on Saturday April 5, 2025 at 12:00 PM. A celebration of life will be held directly following the interment on Saturday, April 5, 2025 at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY, 41051.
