Obituary of Lannie Lawson

Please share a memory of Lannie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lannie Lawson, strong-willed man Lannie Lawson was a strong-willed man with something of a stubborn streak. "He wouldn't change his mind," said his daughter, Barbara Depew, of Walton. "If he made his mind up, that was the way it was going to be. If he intended to do something, he did it." Mr. Lawson, who died Wednesday at 85, was born in Bell County but settled in Independence. He was a member of the Hickory Grove Baptist Church for at least 30 years, and he regularly attended dinners there. He worked for the Salvation Army in Norwood, Ohio, as a truck dispatcher for about 35 years, retiring in 1986. After he retired, he took up bowling once a week in a senior citizens league, and he occasionally played golf. He and his wife sold knick-knacks for many years at the Richwood Flea Market, and Mr. Lawson later sold automobile tires there as well. His wife, Martha Philpot Lawson, died in 1989. Other survivors include daughters, Linda Carlson and Rosemary McNay, both of Independence; a sister, Elsie Jones of Pineville; half-brothers, Gene Maise of Pineville and Warden Lawson of Florida; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Floral Hills Cemetery Chapel, Taylor Mill. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, Independence. Burial will be in Floral Hills Cemetery, Taylor Mill.
