Wally Hennemann, fixed anything
Wally Hennemann was a mechanical genius.
"He could fix just about anything," said Mr. Hennemann's son, Terry Hennemann of Erlanger. "There would be about a thousand pieces of a transmission spread out on the floor and I would say, 'There's no way to put that back together.' He put it back together and made it work."
Wallace "Wally" Edward Hennemann, 82, of Elsmere, died Sunday at Florence Park Care Center.
He was a retired truck mechanic with Cedar Hill Co. and later operated his own business as a mechanic.
Mr. Hennemann was a former elder of First Church of Christ in Burlington and past grand master of Erlanger Good Faith Masonic Lodge No. 95.
He was an Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Hennemann died 17 days after his wife of 63 years, Lucy Margaret Allen Hennemann, died.
One of Mr. Hennemann's favorite pastimes was fishing.
"My dad liked to meet people and talk with people and go different places," said Terry Hennemann. "He liked to kid around with people and was kind of a cut-up."
Mr. Hennemann was a Sunday school teacher and worked with youth groups.
"He took on other people's problems with youngsters," said his son. "He went so far as to bring home a special person who had been disowned by his parents and let him stay at home for a year. He took him under his wing.
"He had a big heart. He was a softie."
Masonic lodge work was a big part of Mr. Hennemann's life.
"He brought people along and taught them and helped them with their lodge duties," said his son. "He had a memory like nobody I've ever seen. He was a great dad."
Other survivors include sons, Wesley Hennemann of Windsor, Mo. and Marvin Hennemann of Florence; a brother, Robert E. Hennemann of Florence; a sister, Carolyn Bailey of Fort Myers, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at First Church of Christ in Burlington. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Erlanger.
Chambers & Grubbs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
