Obituary of Herbert Dieckmann
Please share a memory of Herbert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Herbert W. Dieckmann was born Sep. 23, 1931 in Cincinnati, OH and died Apr. 28, 2012 in Summerfield, FL. Herb was a member of First Baptist Church of Ocala; and previously was a member of First Baptist Church of Erlanger, KY, and then First Baptist Church of Fort Meyers, FL. In 1985 Herb came face to face with Jesus Christ and gave his life to our Savior. He always gave thankful testimony to God for taking away the craving for alcohol in 1991. His love was personal; giving one-on-one to any person he came across who had a need. He always carried a hundred dollar bill for just such an occasion.
Herb was an accomplished athlete. He was a very good shortstop, and barely lost a spot on a community team to Don Zimmer. He also was an accomplished water skier on the Ohio River. He learned to ski barefoot, ski backwards, slalom ski and all kinds of tricks including the jumps. Herb also had many talents, one of which was playing trumpet with his high school marching band. He also formed a band that played for New Year's Eve parties, weddings, night clubs and hotels. They enjoyed playing classic big band songs, emulating Harry James. He always liked anything with a motor-the faster the better!
Mr. Dieckmann proudly served our country in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Herb then got a job with Cincinnati Bell Telephone Company and continued to work until his retirement in 1988. For a few years, He was responsible for all circuitry and phone lines in Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati, OH, serving the Reds and the Bengals.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 26 years, Linda S. Dieckmann of Summerfield, FL; daughter, Kerry (Randall) Smith of Verona, KY; granddaughter, Kendy (Andy) Walker, currently living in Spain; and great-grandsons, William and Conner Walker.
Celebration of life including Masonic services will be held Friday, June 1, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. at Erlanger Baptist Church, 116 Commonwealth Ave., Erlanger, KY 41018. A gathering of friends will be held prior to the service from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to The Shriner's Hospitals for Children, 12502 USF Pine Drive, Tampa, FL 33612. Arrangements entrusted with Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home in Independence, KY 859-356-2673. Sentiments may be left online at www.chambersandgrubbs.com. Herb would want you to know that our Lord is a consummate Fisherman Who cleans His fish after He catches them; and that it is God's will that no one ever die without Jesus Christ, but that everyone should come to know the knowledge of the truth about salvation through Jesus. (II Peter 3:9)
