Carl Samuel Gerros, age 93, of Union, KY passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2014. He was born July 23, 1920 in Kastoria, Greece and came to America in 1937. Carl was a self-taught, creative, entrepreneur who owned several chili parlors most noted for Latonia Chili in Latonia, KY. He was the past president of Ohio Valley Beagle Club, a 32nd degree Mason in Covington, KY, a Kentucky Colonel, and a member in good standing at Holy Trinity St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. Carl served our country and was a Veteran of the U.S. Army. A lover of the outdoors, Carl enjoyed his farm, hunting with his champion beagles, and spending time with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sotorios Antonius Gerros and Katherine Klouses Gerros; sister, Eudoxia Kounelas; niece, Kathy Kounelas and nephews, Billy and Chris Paliobagis. Carl leaves his wife of 64 years, Mary C. Gerros; daughters, Cathy (Tom) Schmitz of Union, KY and Carla (Jeff) Child of Housatonic, MA; son, Terry (Susan) Gerros of Salem, OR; sister, Bessie Paliobagis of Ft. Mitchell, KY; 9 grandchildren, Michael Schmitz, TJ Schmitz, Katie (Mark) Decker, Sarah Jane Hebler, Hannah Zoie Hebler, Jesse Lynn (Chad) Self, Samuel Gerros, Cole Gerros and William Gerros; 2 great- grandchildren, Alexis Jane Hebler Marin and Ryan Decker; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends who were very much like family.
A visitation will be held at Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church 7000 Winton Rd. Cincinnati, OH 45224 on Monday, February 24th, 2014 from 11:00 AM until Funeral Service beginning at 12:00 Noon. Burial will immediately follow at Highland Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell, KY. In lieu of flowers, Memorial's in Carl's name can be made to the Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church.
