Obituary of Wendel Bridges

Wendel Bridges, 86, of Morning View, KY., passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2016. Wendel attended Georgetown College before leaving to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After being discharged from the Air Force, he worked for Delta Airlines as a ticket agent at CVG. He served as Post Master at Morning View for 31 years. After retirement, Wendel was a tour escort for Travel America. He loved to travel, having visited all 50 states and many countries in Europe, as well as going on frequent cruises.
He loved riding a bicycle and rode nearly every day. Wendel was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon Emeritus. He also was a member of the National Association of Postmasters of U.S. (NAPUS), Kentucky Colonels and American Legion Post 275.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Billie Cross Bridges, his brother Wayne Bridges and sister Wanda Stambaugh. He is survived by his 4 children, Sherril Cook, Danny (Brenda) Bridges, Dave (Kim) Bridges and Carrie Slone. He had 14 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday, July 30, 2016 at Chambers & Grubbs Independence from 4-8 PM. Funeral services will take place at 2:30 PM Sunday, July 31, 2016 at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 11969 Taylor Mill Rd., Independence, KY 41051. Burial will be held at Wilmington Baptist Church Cemetery.
