Of my years at Dixie, my fondest memories are of, Mrs. Combs' home Economics classes. I have always enjoyed cooking and baking, but Mrs. Combs taught us jelly making, canning and freezing. I now live in Scottsdale, AZ where I get teases for my skills, but I love having these tools to help my family budget and save money.
Sewing was a challenge, but Mrs. Combs hung I there with me and I made a vest that she actually got me to wear even if it was for a grade. I have continued sewing and now make quilts to be auctioned by my kids school P.T.A. as fundraisers.
It has been said that teachers touch the future. I know Mrs. Combs has touched mine. I can only hope I can pass the skills she taught to my children.
Thank you Mrs. Combs, for sharing your love of homemaking, so patiently with so many.
Sincerely,
Gwen Walker
