I rode my bike from Forest Avenue in Erlanger out to the dairy farm past Price Pike to spend days with Carl who was 12 (I was 11). Fred let our family fish for bluegill in the beautiful lake behind the barn. The cows came and looked in our tackle box. Watch out for the cow pies mom would say. Then we would play in the hay loft. I remember all the white powder (lye) on the foor . Bill was working hard all the time. Carl showed me once how to swing his arm and take the head off of a chippie he caught in the chicken coop. Really. One day I was there he got rid of a lot of his sisters kittens. I wont tell you how but he said she had too many.
I loved his deep voice and his laugh was contagious.
His face on the tractor did not seem at all different than I remember. I ran into him once and he said...."Come out and go fishin sometime" . I wish now that I had made it out to see him. God Rest My Friend. Can't wait till I see him again. Sorry for your loss. I know the grandkids will miss him.
