Fred or "Mr. Terry" as I called him for years, was my coach in knothole baseball from D to A league. He stayed with us until the end of our run as the last Turners hard ball team. I will never forget riding in his work van to practices and games. I learned a lot about life in those van rides. I learned a great quote from him during those years that I use today with my own kids, "only a fish would get in trouble if he kept his mouth shut....". His no nonsense style of coaching taught us to execute, be accountable and be prepared. Lessons that still resonate today. All 3 of my children went through the basketball program at Turners. While only 1 was able to be coached by Fred and Fred Jr, the other 2 have heard all the stories about how great he was….not just as a coach but as a person.
My sincerest condolences to the entire family and friends.
