I called him "Leroy" we were neighbors and buddies since my teens. Duke chauffeured the neighborhood in his 1930's Ford, which didn't have brakes most of the time, Dad preached to us someone is going to get hurt, we loved that car. Dad ended up buying it from Duke to save our lives !! One night during Halloween; Duke and some other guys from the neighborhood was pilling everything they could find on our front porch. They thought we were asleep,, but we were watching them from inside. Dad went out back and shot off his rusty shot gun; Duke was the first one running down the road; didn't show his face for a couple days. Duke was always there if you needed him and loved by everyone. He and my Dad shared the same birthday Aug. 21st !! I will miss you "Leroy "

I know Duke was not my biological father, but i will always consider him my father. To me he was Duke, but in my heart he was my dad. He was the dad he didn't have to be. He always lifted me up when I would talk about work. He always gave guidance to me in rough times. I feel i have lost not only a father but a friend. Duke was always funny and always cutting up at the dinner table. He made you feel welcomed and asked how you was doing. He was the dad that he didn't have to be. I remember the first time I met him as a teenager. We went and seen Edward Scissorhands. I remember us having such a great time. I will always remember Duke as the rock in my life. He is home now with his father. I am sure they opened their arms to welcome him home. Duke you will be missed and thank you for being a friend, father and great husband to my mom.
Love
John (Abner)
