Dear Kaelin Family, it was a blessing to have met Dave all those years ago during the time I first started dating my husband Danny when they were both stationed at Ft. Bliss. His smile and humor still resonate with me all these years later. Please know that every time the sun shines now, the light you see will be his guiding spirit and the warmth you feel will be the love he is spreading in the world. He will always be watching over your family and continuing to make a difference through the smiles you all share with people. Your family is in our hearts and prayers.
Respectfully, Sandra (Sandy) Contreras

Terry and family
I didn’t know Dave but I have heard you talk about your brother and your family and the love you all share so I know how much you all are hurting and for that I am truly very sorry. I hope in time that pain will subside and you can share memories of Dave with joy and happiness. I swear it gets easier it has been 14 years since I lost my brother and I miss him like crazy but that pain is gone. Love you Terry and I am only a phone call away if you need me

Family is the most important thing on this earth. The Kaelin family is experiencing a very difficult period that I wish I could ease in some way. I hope the knowledge of the many friends David had will somehow fill the hole that will forever remain in the lives of those who loved him. His family will remain in my prayers forever.

Though I haven't seen Dave since I was eight, he was one the kindest people I have ever known. His daughter Alexa was a best friend of mine when I was a kid, so I saw him often. I'll always remember me joking with him about how he said spaghetti.
I'll miss you Dave. May Light Shine On Your Path❤

Sometimes in life a person comes along that makes an enormous impact on the lives of others, I was blessed to have known David Kaelin. To those of us who knew him he was a larger than life character that lit up a room, had a huge grin on his face always, and loved life and the people he cared for. He always looked out for others and on many occasions when we were teenagers I saw him fight for those who could not fight for themselves. He carried this into adulthood as an officer with over thirty years of selfless military service to our nation.
He encouraged others to take risks, to be more than they believed they could, and he cheered for those that would have otherwise gone unnoticed. He was a rare individual that made those around him better, inspiring and advocating for others. I was one of those people, David’s impact on my life allowed me to take more risks and reach higher than I would have otherwise thought possible and I know I am just one of many.
I remember happily the adventures we had growing up and the great times spent learning what life was all about. Those were formative years in my life during which he played a role of profound significance. Sports, clubs, scouts, classes, working, driving, dating, and preparing for the future, I remember all of it and he will live on forever in those memories.
While my heart breaks for his family and I tearfully mourn his untimely passing, I am thankful to have counted him among my friends and will cherish his legacy always. I look forward with joy to the day when we meet again in Christ and kneel together at the throne of God.
David, you were, are, and forever will be my dear friend, I love you buddy and I will keep your memory until the day when we are all united again through Christ Jesus.
With Love and Sympathy - Steve Hawkins

David worked at Walton IGA with me 30 years ago. He was a great employee and an even better friend. It was easy to recognize his leadership abilities and I knew he would make an impact on the world in his life. David was a fun guy to be around but one could tell he seriously cared about people. Join me in praying for the repose of his soul with the praying of the Rosary and causing Holy Masses to be offered for him. As Saint Ambrose said: "We have loved him in life. Let us not abandon him in death until we have conducted him by our prayers into the House of God." -- BERNIE KUNKEL

I send my sympathy, love and prayers to the Kaelin Family during this very sorrowful time of grief. When death comes suddenly, it deepens our sense of loss. Finding the right words to convey what we feel is a struggle but in Faith, we believe that our God is with us. We know the ONE in whom we can trust our lives. Only God could love David more that we do and knowing this, we find peace. Dave leaves the memory of a man who dearly loved his family, served his country faithfully, and touched everyone he met with a warm smile, great humour, and a heart that was always open to giving and receiving. He will be greatly missed but never
forgotten. Rest in peace, David! Be sure to greet Aunt Jane for me.

I worked with Major Kaelin at the Michigan City Armory. He was very proud of his family and he always encouraged me to take time out for my family. God was a very important part of his life, and he would always show great compassion for others. Praying for the family.
Rest in Peace Sir!

David,
I remenber when your family moved to Walton. You were this cute little 1st or 2nd grader. You and Tom played with my cousin Joey. You rode bikes, played baseball and even shot bb guns at each other over dirt mounds. I feel so much sorrow for your children and your siblings. From the memories Tina has I believe there was alot of love, happiness and memories in that house " down on Main Street". Rest in peace, God bless you all.
Love,
LaVerne Wilson Ohmer
