Obituary of Major David Jerome Kaelin
Major David Jerome Kaelin, age 48, of Noblesville, IN (formerly of Walton, KY) passed away suddenly on Monday, June 8, 2020 at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville, IN. Son of the late James C. & Marlene Theresa Gearding Kaelin, David had proudly served his country in the United States Army since 2002. “Mayor David” as many friends and neighbors referred to him, was loved by everyone who knew him. He loved being outdoors and especially taking his children to baseball and softball practices and games, or hanging out by the pool (he was heard to say “he lived for moments like these”).
Surviving him are his wife, Christina Lyne Gillespie Kaelin; children, Mallory Kaelin (Eric Minyard), Alexa Kaelin, and Gabriel Kaelin; siblings, Terry Muennich (Jerry), Peggy Cordray (Jack), James Kaelin, Timothy Kaelin, Michael Kaelin, John Kaelin, Lisa Petrie (Mike), Thomas Kaelin (Caroline), Marlayna Cooney (Jason), and Nicholas Kaelin (Christa); and grandson, Eli Jerom Minyard. A visitation will be held Friday, June 19, 2020 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home, 11382 Madison Pike, Independence, KY 41051.
Due to the current Covid-19 restrictions and the new reopening requirement we will be limiting our building occupancy to 33% of normal capacity, so please be prepared for a possible line as we will be monitoring the occupancy. A PRIVATE mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10:00am at All Saints Church, 62 Needmore Street, Walton, KY 41094. family.
Prior to the funeral mass, beginning at approximately 9:00 am on Saturday, June 20, 2020, all are welcome to gather along Route 17, Route 16, and Highway U.S 25 between Chambers and Grubbs Funeral Home in Independence and All Saints Church as a military funeral procession including the Patriot Freedom Riders will be escorting David to the services.
Friends are welcome to gather outside of the church for the playing of taps, folding of the flag and a 21 gun salute immediately following mass. A celebration of life luncheon will be held on church premises for family and friends immediately following military honors. His family welcomes the sharing of stories, laughter and love.
Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
