Faithful, consistent, kind and good are just a few things that come to mind when I think of Chris. He was new to SK as I was when the SRO program was started there. He was passionate about teaching. He also adored his family. A rare person, you shall be missed.

I remember you, way back in 1999. And when you woo'd my English teacher off her feet and married. She proudly sat a giant photo on her desk. I remember her being pregnant too. Lord. Y'all must've been young. Your light and love will be missed.

The Kentucky Quiz Bowl Alliance is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Chris Girard this past Thursday. Chris has been a mentor and friend to all of us on the KQBA Board, and his presence at Saturday events always elevated everyone around him. Chris was there at the late night meeting at the 2018 HSNCT when the KQBA decided to up our game, and helped us to organize and moderate our first ever Kentucky Individual Championship. His leadership and joy for competition will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Kim and Emily during this trying time.

It was such an honor to compete with the truly formidable academic team that Chris built. His joy and passion for his students was clear to all that had the privilege to meet him in competition. You will be dearly missed.

He will be missed. Many knew he was a good teacher, but perhaps not just how good. I knew Chris in high school from playing against him on academic team. After college I was asked to see if Chris would be interested in switching to my high school to take over for a retiring teacher who was head of the department. He of course elected to stay, but I found out there was an even bigger school in Kentucky who had also asked him to take over for their coach.

Thank you, Chris, for having such a positive impact on Adam, Luke, and Shelby, as well as so many others who were fortunate enough to be coached or taught by you. A light in this dark world has been extinguished. You definitely changed the world for the better. I’m grateful to have known you, traveled to academic team competitions with you and the team, and to have had your light brighten the lives of my children. Well done. You will be missed. Kim and Emily - you are in our thoughts and prayers.
With deepest sympathy and fond memories

I had the pleasure of having Mr. Girard my sophomore year of high school. He was one of the greatest teachers I had. I always remember him having his Fave and Busters cup of water every day. It’s weird how we seem to remember the little things.
Mrs. Girard and Emily, I am so incredibly sorry for your loss and I’ll be praying for you both. You and Mr. Girard were legends and I owe a lot of credit to you both for setting me up for success in college and in my career.

Chris poured his heart into his family and his students. He was a kind and gentle spirit. And he LOVED a good competition. His smile was always brightest when he spoke of his wife, Kim, and their daughter, Emily. He was so proud of both of you. He enjoyed helping his students and academic players become more knowledgeable in all areas of academia. He took the time to discuss responses. He made a positive difference in this world. My thoughts and prayers are with each of you.

Chris exemplified the best of what it means to be a high school coach. He was a great advocate for the whole concept of academic competition, and supporter of all of the kids. And not just the ones on his team. He helped me, an opposing coach, with materials and suggestions. He was supportive of our endeavors and always respected my kids. More even than that though, he was an example. He brought a positive and supportive attitude to every match that I witnessed, and showed me how a high school coach should act. Always an advocate for his team, always challenging his kids to be better, always battling to win, yet never ever letting my team feel that he wanted us to fail. I hope that I came close to reflecting his example. I'm sure that all who crossed paths with Chris will miss him. All of KAAC will miss him. I certainly will. Thank you again for all the support, my friend.

What a wonderful photo of Chris. It is exactly the way I will always remember his smiling face. I was always in awe of his knowledge. I am taken aback by the many tributes on his Facebook page from all of his students and colleagues at Simon Kenton. He was a blessing to so many people's lives, and I know that the world has been a better place because he was in it. My prayers are with Kim and Emily in the days ahead, and hope they are comforted knowing Chris is now with God in his eternal home, free of pain and sadness. May his light continue to shine for all to see.
